2026 has been a brilliant year for Irish music. Dublin’s Gurriers continue that wave with their second album Nobody’s Coming To Save You, recently released via Play It Again Sam. Gurriers‘ music is hard to pigeon-hole and easily moves between post-punk, indie-rock and even industrial at times. When we saw them at Leeds Festival in August, frontman Dan Hoff created chaos within the crowd from the word go – it’s impossible to stand still at a Gurriers show.
The ten-track album kicks off with the title song Nobody’s Coming To Save You, this one has been released for a while now and stands up as one of the finest on the record – Hoff is on top form here. Party Lines is another early standout, with a thought-provoking opening line from American political scientist Michael Parenti “The third world is not poor, you don’t go to poor countries to make money.” Hoff’s vocals are deliberately distorted for this one, while guitarist Ben O’Neill lets rip – we really can’t wait to hear this one live again on the band’s upcoming tour.
There are definite Kasabian influenced vocals on next track Shades, while Pins slows things down a little. The guitar intro for Today Is Not Enough sends a tingle down the spine – that’s the thing about Gurriers‘ music, they have such a wide range of playing styles and that keeps it very lively. Highly-charged political sentiments can be heard throughout Drones, while Nothing Happens Twice is an explosion of vocals and instruments that just carries you away for its duration. Waiting For Fisher has to be one of the punkiest tracks on the record, as Hoff excels once again on vocals. I Wish I Was builds slowly before hitting a wall of instruments, and closing track Crybaby does pretty much the same.
This second album has landed almost two years to the date of debut Come And See, and in that time Gurriers have built a decent fanbase around Ireland, the UK and Europe where they head out on tour in just a couple of weeks. We are so looking forward to the Glasgow show later this month… let mayhem ensue!
