After last month’s release of the second Gurriers album Nobody’s Coming To Save You they headed out on a UK, Irish and European tour and with the first night of the tour in Glasgow we couldn’t think of a better place to start the tour. SWG3 sits in the West End of the city, a stones-throw from the river Clyde that was once the shipbuilding capital of the world.

There is a decent sized crowd down early for tonight’s support Tramhaus who have come all the way from Rotterdam in The Netherlands to support Gurriers on this tour. From the off Tramhaus vocalist Lukas Jansen is a ball of energy using the full stage to his benefit, their music is a mix of hardcore-punk, indie-rock and shoegaze at times reminding us of hardcore bands Turnstile and Hi Vis. They freshly released second album Blister last week, the picks from that release would be Plovdiv, Lap Dog and I Was Never Alone, all sounded great live. The forty-minute set flew by and it looked like most of the crowd were enjoying what they were hearing. Lukas tells us that this is the bands first ever show in Glasgow but have played Edinburgh before, they will be back in Glasgow next year to play at Nice n Sleazy … now that’s one to look forward to. 8/10

The TV Studio was now buzzing with excitement in anticipation of hearing the new Gurriers tunes. We didn’t have to wait long for a new song as the latest album title track Nobody’s Coming To Save You gets the set off to a frenetic start with singer Dan Hoff almost in the crowd, this is the energetic start to the tour the band would have wanted. Obviously, the setlist has a major focus on their second freshly released album Nobody’s Coming To Save You and the opener kicks off the tour of the same name. The vocals from Hoff reverberate around the TV Studio that must have around seven hundred present, not quite sold out but not too far of it either, it won’t be too long until Gurriers are playing far bigger venues. Party Lines is another from the latest release and keeps the energy high, the mosh pits have kicked off already and we would later see some enthusiastic crowd surfing.

We have seen Gurriers twice already this year – at Sound City in Liverpool & Leeds festival – on both occasions they absolutely smashed it, the Glasgow crowd continue that theme, this is a crowd that are here for a party tonight. The run of new tracks is broken by Nausea & Des Goblin from the first album Come And See, in fact we get seven from that album alongside Erasure from Audiotree Live. The four songs that follow this – Pins, Today Is Not Enough, Nothing Happens Twice & Shades – is the most electrifying part of the show, and yes they are all from the latest record. And for those that turned up to hear the band’s biggest songs, they needn’t have worried, they are all here … Sign Of The Times, Come And See, Top Of The Bill & Approachable. We do have to admit a little disappointment that they didn’t play Prayers but can understand why, it is a six minute song, maybe they will bring it back into the set next time around. Waiting For Fisher was an early release from the album and it is this one that grabs our attention tonight but to be honest every single track that Gurriers played tonight was special and the crowd were too. 9/10
