What if we told you that, by exchanging a field in the UK for the sprawling grounds of a Transylvanian castle, you can have one of the most exciting festival experiences of the year? Welcome to Electric Castle.
Taking over the historic Bánffy Castle estate in Bonida, at a stone’s throw from Cluj-Napoca, the festival has evolved from Romania’s best-kept secret into a European powerhouse over the past ten years. Now officially crowned International Festival of the Year at the UK Festival Awards in 2025, this “24-hour Transylvanian festival phenomenon” is gearing up to blow minds once again with a genre-defying line-up for 2026.
Here at Bring The Noise UK, we love a festival that knows how to cater to the heavy, the alternative, and everything in between – precisely what the Electric Castle Festival is known for. Previous years have seen names ranging from Bring Me the Horizon, Limp Bizkit, Enter Shikari and Queens of the Stone Age to Florence and the Machine, Iggy Pop, Skrillex, DJ Diesel (a.k.a Shaquille O’Neal), Sean Paul, Shaggy and even Justin Timberlake last year. We really do mean it when we say there’s something here for everyone across the 10 unique stages, something which can easily be seen when looking at the other names on the poster.
First, let’s talk heavy hitters. The main headliners for this 12th edition are melancholic rock legends The Cure, returning to Romanian soil for the first time since their 2019 gig in Bucharest. They’re joined by megastars Twenty One Pilots, who are also returning to the festival four years after they first took it by storm (with a show featuring a Stranger Things crossover, in time for its fourth season back in 2022). Between vintage classics like Friday, I’m in Love, Burn or Lullaby and modern hits such as Chlorine, Heathens, The Line or Stressed Out, this year’s festival is already set to impress — and we haven’t even talked about the rest of the line-up yet!
Indie/alt-rockers Nothing But Thieves will make their third appearance at the festival, while Isle of Wight post-punk duo Wet Leg will be playing the grounds for the first time. Kid Kapichi are bringing their high-octane punk-fuelled energy, with Sleaford Mods also set to deliver their signature blend of electro-punk and danceable beats. Then there’s also rising shoegaze act Just Mustard and their dreamy soundscapes, as well as one of this year’s biggest surprises, Dogstar – yes, the very grunge-rock trio where one can witness Hollywood legend Keanu Reeves play the bass guitar.
Beyond the riffs, one can truly witness the breadth of sounds and genres on offer at this festival. Teddy Swims is another act making their Romanian debut, promising a powerful set by way of his mix of R&B, hip-hop, Southern-rock and gospel. Then there’s Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap, which are sure to get the energy and crowd surging with their chaotic and politically charged set, as well as singer-songwriter LP (Laura Pergolizzi), who will enchant those in attendance with her signature croon and indie-pop-rock hits such as Lost on You or Other People. This is all without even mentioning the sheer mass of electronic, EDM & DNB acts, such as Chase & Status, Wilkinson, Nastia, Sullivan King, Mochakk or Yung Lean & Bladee – again, truly something for everyone here.
If you decide to book yourselves a vacation and visit Romania for Electric Castle, be sure to check out some of the local acts that will be in attendance. Perhaps most well-known among the rock & metal sphere are E-an-na, who have previously visited major festivals such as Wacken, Hellfest or Pol’and’Rock with their wild mix of traditional Romanian music, folk metal and Balkan sounds. Floare de Fier or O, Romania are good starting points if you’re curious what Romanian folk metal sounds like. Alternatively, give Malere, Lotus or Samsara a listen if the more Balkan/oriental side of them would appeal to you more.
Some other local standouts include HVNDS and their metalcore/nu-metal crossover sounds – start with Dor, BLOOD or Baba Yaga – as well as Robin and the Backstabbers with their driving indie-rock or Byron with their more poetic sensibilities. For the former, use Soare cu Dini and Sat Dup Sat as jumping on points, while for the latter you can check out Marea or Cu capul în nori. You’re probably going to need a dictionary if you want to unpack their lyricism, but it’ll be worth it.
All in all, Electric Castle 2026 is shaping up to be unmissable, with a line-up covering all bases, breath-taking scenery and round-the-clock music. Add to that the affordable food & drink options compared to the average UK festival (there’s even a whole Lidl store on the festival grounds!) and this might easily become your new favourite summer getaway. See you at the castle!
