Tonight under the Barrowland lights we are in for a treat as three bands from the USA take to the stage with Virginia rockers Turnover being the main attraction and the band have promised to play the 2015 album Peripheral Vision in full and in sequence.

We quickly escape the Glasgow rain and it’s not long until Glixen take to the stage with their own brand of grunge music, the four-piece band play a high intensity set with shoegaze influences written all over the tracks they played tonight. Considering this is the first time Glixen have toured in the UK and Europe they put on quite the show and we quickly understand why they are on the NME ones to watch in 2025 list. The half-hour performance from the Phoenix-based band is packed with spine tingling guitar riffs from Esteban Santana alongside the dreamy vocals of Aislinn Ritchie. There are well over one thousand fans in early to see the performance and we think they may have gained quite a few new fans, Aislinn comments that they didn’t even expect to be playing here. We enjoyed all six tracks but if we had to choose the best ones then it would have to be opener Sick Silent, Splendour and Lick The Star all taken from their debut EP Quiet Pleasures that was released in February. Closing track Shut Me Down is instrumental with all four band members giving absolutely everything to this last song, they left a great impression on me for sure. Once Glixen release more music we would love to see them return to Glasgow for a headline show. 9/10

This is the first live show for Adam McIlwee and his Wicca Phase Springs Eternal band since February 2025 and with a brand new album on the horizon it is the right time for the band to be touring, their music can be described as indie-rock with a tinge of a country feel about it. A Glasgow crowd is renowned for being passionate and letting go of any inhibitions early on but for Wicca Phase Springs Eternal the crowd were surprisingly static and to be honest we found the openers Glixen much more worthy of getting some movement going. Wicca Phase Springs Eternal released their new album Mossy Oak Shadow on 19th September. 7/10

With the old Barrowland Ballroom now looking pretty full the 10th Anniversary Tour of Peripheral Vision gets off to a flyer with the excellent Cutting My Fingers Off, straight away we just knew this was going to be an electrifying performance and a special night. The guitar work from Nick Rayfield is unreal at times and it really is a faultless performance with each track sounding as close to the original record as can be. Looking around it seems the crowd know all the words to the songs as the set continues with New Scream and Humming, the intensity as the set goes on seems to get higher and higher. Dizzy On The Comedown is a personal favourite and is played with perfection tonight as vocalist Austin Getz and his brother Casey Getz seem to be playing with great cohesion during every song, there isn’t too much chat between songs either, this band definitely let the music do all the talking. The last two tracks of the album part of the set are I Would Hate You If I Could and Intrapersonal, both were played perfectly and appreciated all round within the Glasgow crowd, a lot of them would have grown up listening to Peripheral Vision.

Now that the album part of the show is over we are lucky enough to get to hear Turnover play two new tracks, unfortunately we didn’t hear the names of the new songs. However we are sure they will be released at some point and may even be part of a new Turnover album in the near future. Humblest Pleasures from 2016 is next up and gets a great reaction from the crowd, head nodding alongside singing the lyrics back to the stage being the order of the day, no mosh pits or crowd surfing tonight and there was no need either, this was shoegaze indie rock at it’s finest. Their last album release was Myself In The Way in 2022 and we get to hear Stone Station and Tears Of Change from that release, both tracks prove how tight a unit Turnover really are. There are only two songs left of the eighteen now and it is the superb Super Natural that has the Barras bouncing and testing the spring loaded floor to the maximum. This has to be one of the best of the set tonight while Most Of The Time from the Magnolia album ends a night of music that will live long in the memory. The UK leg of the tour continued with shows in Manchester, Leeds and London before moving on to Dublin. 10/10
