Behind The Noise

MUSIC FEATURE: Behind The Noise – The UMA

Formed in 2019, pop-rock newcomers The UMA bonded over a love of the same music and shared ambitions. Following the release of Working For It and Wake Up, the trio’s most recent single Fire (and the first song they ever wrote together) is another infectious head-bopper with a soaring chorus, acting as an important reminder that you should never give up. We caught up with The UMA to find out more about the single including its themes, the writing process and behind the scenes stories.

Can you give us your quick elevator pitch on this track? Why does this one standout for you as a band?

So this was THE FIRST song we wrote as a band. It was the one that clicked instantly and the one that will always hold a special place in our hearts. It’s like our first born it will always be our first love. It’s fun and has energy. It’s what we’re all about really. Loads of fun sprinkled in some dirt.

How did you tackle the writing process for the song? Was there anything unique about this track compared to your usual/previous approach?

This was written with the assistance of beers and good hangs. No forward thought was put into it. Like every piece we write there’s NO rules and I think as it was our first born we especially had no rules then we just wanted to write what we wanted and that’s what happened. FIRE!

Can you tell us how the song’s theme came about?

Dan and I had been in previous bands that didn’t amount to anything and we weren’t gonna give up. The opening chorus lines “Sometimes they make me, sometimes they break me” it’s just about not giving up! Don’t put that fire out. Do what makes y’all happy Against all odds.

Tell us about the video, do the themes of the single transfer to the video?

I mean we knew this video needed to be as big as we could make it on an unsigned budget. We wanted something that reflected the song, a statement piece. The imagery is live and electric and of course has fire featured. It’s a big song and it needed a big video.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories from the video shoot?

Just that it was THE HOTTEST video ever!! After every shot we had to take a minute. Like our videos it just fell together. Our friend Matty Daley who is Clearway media just gets our vibe and what we’re about so that really does make things easier.

Anything else you’d like to add for our readers?

Just thanks for taking the time to read this and give us a listen if you have. We have a lot coming in 2021 and we look forward to sharing it with y’all.
