Sinoptik‘s latest single Apple Tree seeks enlightenment, to relieve the pain in their home country and the world beyond. We caught up with the Ukranian power rock trio to discuss the single and it’s accompanying video in more detail, from the writing process and themes to stories behind the scenes.
Can you give us your quick elevator pitch on this track? Why does this one standout for you?
In this song we are talking about simple but important things, which people seem to have forgotten about. We believe that each person has his own inner tree, which he either cares for or allows it to dry out. Every day we are bombarded with too much information from various media, we get lost in it and our life crumbles into sand. Every day we have to make choices and we must make them consciously. Changes begin with each of us.
How did you tackle the writing process for the song? Was there anything unique about this track compared to your usual/previous approach?
Like most of our songs, this one was put together like a puzzle from each of our ideas. First we had a simple guitar riff, and we turned it to something more psychedelic and progressive. Also this song will be slightly different on the album version, with a deep middle part.
Can you tell us how the song’s theme came about?
Our upcoming album has a very defined concept, and this song is like a separate chapter from the album. It tells the story of its protagonist.
Tell us about the video, do the themes of the single transfer to the video?
Video was made in just one day, and it turned out to be a whole wild experiment for us. The video strongly reflects the energy and the power of the song.
Do you have any behind the scenes stories from the video shoot?
The video was shot on the 30th of December in just 10 hours. Outside it was -16 Celsius degrees and in the building it was 0 degrees! Probably, that’s one of the reasons the video became so dynamic – uncomfortable conditions pushed us all to work to the limits.
