MUSIC INTERVIEW: Resolve

We caught up with vocalist Anthony Diliberto from Resolve while they were are on tour with Make Them Suffer. We discussed the current tour, their music, and all things sci-fi.

This will mark your 13th show of tour. How has it been so far?

I think it’s the most successful tour we’ve ever had. Even the headline a year ago wasn’t that good for us. I think what happened this year is that the band is starting to grow, and we can feel it during this tour. So really happy we said yes, and thanks to Make Them Suffer for having us.

Has the tour met your expectations, or have there been any surprises along the way?

I think, to be honest, it’s beyond expectations, and I’m really happy to say that because it’s not always the case. So yeah, this one is a really good one. It’s above expectations by far.

As you’re all from France, if you could bring one thing from home on tour with you, what would it be and why?

It would be my girlfriend, definitely, or my bed. If I can’t bring a person, it would be my own bed. But yeah, girlfriend 100 percent. This year is a big one. We are coming back from Australia. It was the first time, super nice experience, but it’s really far, and we toured for one month and a half in November, December with While She Sleeps as well. So, when we are home, we are not really taking some time for us. We are always working on something because we tour so much now. All the month we have between tours, we need to spend them working on music or just the, I don’t like discord, but the business around Resolve.

How does singing in French compare to singing in English? And would you ever consider incorporating French into a bridge or chorus?

I like singing in French, but maybe not on my own music. I would love to sing a few sentences in French for the future songs. The main thing is now in France, we have LANDMVRKS, and they are taking a lot of attention. We are close friends to them as well. It’s not like we are really close friends, so it would be really weird if we were doing this. I think most of the people won’t like it, and they will be like, uh, they’re trying to do it like LANDMVRKS. That’s definitely not what we want to do. But yeah, they do it so well, I think we’re going to let this for them.

Is there a particular song on your albums that you’re most proud of? And are there any tracks you feel are underappreciated and deserve more attention?

Yeah, a few. I think Between Me And The Machine from the first album, uh, deserved more attention. It’s a really long song. I like Daggers as well from the first album. I think it’s a beautiful song. On the last record, it would be Continuum, and my personal favourite is In Stone. I think it deserves a lot more attention, but it’s not metal. So maybe people are more interested in breakdowns and heavy stuff, but we like doing different stuff as well. More melodic stuff, balladS and stuff like that. I think we’ll keep doing this even if it doesn’t work as much as breakdowns and stuff like that.

Is there a connection between, Between Me and the Machine and Human in terms of themes or concepts?

Yeah, there’s a few songs connected. There are songs just talking about this thing or this thing, but on the first album, we have connected songs like Emerald Skies and Between Me And The Machine. This one, we have Human and New Colours, and everything is part of the same scenario, but from a different point of view, or everything is in the same world. Like if it’s a movie, those four songs are part of it. There is a lot of not the songs, but like sentences here and there around this universe. We are a lot into sci-fi stuff. So, we have a lot of ideas when we write songs, and inevitably, we are always going in the same way, and we like, we need to connect this to this song or this song. So, it’s pretty natural, and we don’t have to force it, and that’s also why the whole album doesn’t talk about the same thing. There’s also songs, just normal songs. I’ve been watching a lot of sci-fi stuff since I was a kid. I think one of my favourite things at the moment is Dark and most common thing, like Interstellar or stuff like that. Yeah, but it’s more the whole universe around sci-fi and the future stuff. When I was a kid, I was a big Terminator fan. I still think it’s a really good movie, even if it’s a bit cheesy. But the whole story behind it is clever, and it’s happening right now.

How do you want fans to feel when they listen to your music?

I think the same as the way we build albums, like there’s a few different phases in the albums, like the heavy one, the sci-fi one, the ballad one, emotional one. I want people to feel different emotions when they listen to an album. I think our albums are like 50 minutes each, which is enough for people to feel something. I don’t want us to be a band where we are just doing heavy stuff and people are angry all the time. I want them to feel emotions, and I want to create a memory. We want to create songs that reminds people of personal stuff as well. Yeah, songs like In Stone, for example. I want people to feel it for their story, not for my story.

Fans really loved your collaboration on Older Days with ten56 and Paleface Swiss. How did that come about, and would you consider doing more collaborations in the future?

Yeah, I think we will. We started with LANDMVRKS, doing, I wrote most of the song with them for a Self-Made Black Hole. This one, and I sing on the song as well. Turned out it was super nice to do and a big success for them and for us. So, it’s really good. The song Older Days was on the album before the collaboration. We sent the album for print and stuff like that. During the album campaign, we were like, we need to do something more. Maybe we can do a collaboration, but we wanted to do it with Aaron and Zelli. It was clear from the start. So, we just asked, they said yes, and it was super easy to do. Like two days, one day in the studio and one day for the video was super easy. So, I’m pretty sure we’re going to do more in the future. I just don’t know with who for now. But we are going to do it pretty soon, I think.

Can you share anything about future plans, maybe new music or upcoming projects?

Yeah, obviously. I think it makes no sense for us to tour that much if there is nothing at the end. We need to raise something new when we can. I don’t think we’re going to give up before album three. So, we’re going to do a new album, and everything is going pretty well for us at the moment. So, really curious about what we’re going to do next. But yeah, there will be more music, more tours, headline tours.

If Resolve had a signature drink, what would it be called, and what would be in it?

I think it will be a mixed a mix of IPA, whiskey, rum, and red wine. So, absolutely disgusting. But you can drink those four things separately. We like Powerade as well, which is non-alcoholic.
