Wolfgang Van Halen has launched his solo band, Mammoth WVH, with the release of debut single Distance.

The track is an open letter to his father Eddie Van Halen and will be supporting The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation through proceeds from the sales of the song. The foundation, which was supported by Eddie throughout his lifetime, provides musical instruments and support to underfunded schools.

Speaking of the track, Wolfgang Van Halen explains: “As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him. While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life. I never intended Distance to be the very first piece of music people would hear from me, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release. This is for him. I love and miss you, Pop.”

A moving video has been released alongside the track, providing a special insight into the life of Van Halen through a collection of family home movies.
