Brighton vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, Yumi And The Weather (aka Ruby Taylor), has announced her new EP Some Days, due for release on 3rd December 2020 via Small Pond Records.
Taylor and her band have also revealed a video for brand new single What Will Become Of The Wishing Well, shot by her neighbour and analogue film photographer Emilia Cox.
“The story behind What Will Become Of The Wishing Well is about the current situation with COVID and how there are so many lies around it all,” Taylor explains. “It’s also about the theory that we are heading into a cashless society, so I thought people won’t be throwing coins to make wishes anymore. Wishes are such a nice thing as it’s all about hopeful thinking for a moment—about desires and things we want, almost like little prayers. Ultimately it’s about the recent struggle of not knowing what the future holds, but keeping grounded in a time when truth and information are up in the air.
“Emilia lives in the same building as me and had never shot a video before, so it was quite fun just trying things out. We found some nice places to dance about with a stereo I’ve had for years and think is really cute. Even though it doesn’t work anymore it still makes me happy. I edited the video on iMovie, and took influence from cheesy old music videos with the slow zoom in and out shots, which I think is such a simple but effective effect.”
