Irish quartet The Clockworks have released their new single Can I Speak To A Manager? via Alan McGee‘s label Creation23.

The track, which was written back in 2018, was inspired by vocalist James McGregor‘s escapes from his day job in their hometown of Galway, which saw him spending lunchtimes in local pubs and cafe’s. It looks into challenges with telephone customer services, financial pressures and just wanting to speak to someone who knows what they’re on about… Can I Speak To A Manager? was recorded at Unit 13 Studios in London by Paul Tipler, mixed by Rocky O’Reilly at Start Together Studios in Belfast and final mastering was completed by Nick Watson at Fluid Mastering.

Speaking of the track McGregor explains “Musically I think it is one of the starkest and darkest tracks that we have. In essence it’s a simple story of getting a dodgy laptop and having no luck on the phone to the company who sold it. Without the “fast-food distraction” factor I hoped the laptop would provide, I looked around for something else to do and found nothing. Nothing on TV, nothing in the fridge, showering for some purpose…Spending money to try and buy some purpose just makes me more cynical…I wanted to sort of drill in the phrase ‘Can I speak to a Manager?’ to get a feeling that everywhere I look, that question is there.
