MUSIC NEWS: Life On The Road With…Energy

Later this month punk rockers Energy will embark on their debut UK headline tour, following the release of their new EP Under The Mask. We caught up with vocalist Tank ahead of the shows to hear his top tips and stories from the road.

Favourite thing about touring:

Easily performing the songs that I’ve written, and seeing people react positively to them. Hearing kids (and adults) tell me how much our songs mean to them. It’s definitely what keeps me wanting more of the road.

Least favourite thing about touring:

It used to be “being away from home”, but now that my fiance tours with us as our official photographer, I have no one / nothing to miss back home. I suppose finding food as a vegan is a bit of a hassle too.

Five essentials for the road:

My fiance or I’d die.
My iPhone
Black robes
Aleve
Cliff Bars

Your favourite way to pass the time:

Smoking weed.

“The Most”

Memorable moment:

Probably the first show I ever played with Energy. To be 21 years old starting my first actual band where I write and sing my own songs and having what felt like the entire audience singing along to every word from our demo (which was less than a month old at the time) was a moment I’ll never forget. That moment sealed the deal for me, and I’m still on that same mission that I set out on that day…and it’s all on YouTube!

Hilarious moment:

I think it might have just been any of the banter between the other guys in the band. They’re like the Hanson brothers or something. They’re never not on. It’s bizarre, but has me in tears laughing constantly.

Embarrassing moment:

When I lost my voice in Leeds earlier this year. In the 32 years that I have been alive, I have never lost my voice until that night onstage. I am so glad that no footage has surfaced of that embarrassing performance, and I hope we are able to somehow make up for it this August when we return.

Outrageous moment:

I can’t really say what our most outrageous moment was publicly…so I’m just going to say that our drunkest moment was the most outrageous one as well…

Drunken moment:

I’ve never had a sip of alcohol in my life, but there are 4 other people in this band…I think we had one of our drunkest moment during our recent UK tour with Creeper when our guitarist Steve got so drunk that he took off into the night in Birmingham causing him to miss our bus call. His cell phone was dead too. It took a long time to find him that night.

Rewarding moment:

I think honestly between hearing people singing along during the breaks in Another Yesterday louder than we were even playing some nights, people making their own Energy merch to wear to the shows, people having our artwork and lyrics tattooed on them, holding up signs with our lyrics written on them, and all of the other things that our amazing fans have been doing, I can’t just pick one thing. I love every single one of you. You are all amazing.
