Alt/pop trio Carpark are going from strength to strength and showing no signs of slowing down. In 2024 alone, the band have released their new EP Born To Be Average, supported The Libertines and announced their biggest headline show to date. We caught up with Carpark to discuss their formation, influences, ambitions and more.

Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself and your band.

Scottie sings and plays bass, Hattie plays guitar and Loda plays drums – together we are the alt/rock band known as Carpark!

How did the band form and how long have you been together?

We formed a few years ago, the first show we played was out of Loda’s sisters garage back in Belfast, which was really fun.

Can you remember the first time you realised you wanted to make music?

We all met on social media united by our desire to create music and play music as our full-time job, which wasn’t something any of our friends were doing – it didn’t happen by accident, we made it happen! And it takes lots of work but we know what we want to do.

Who and what are the band’s main influences?

We all have different musical influences but old pop/punk records will always be something that we can sing along to together.

What do you aim to achieve as a band?

There’s a band called The Beaches who we really look up to – they’re friends of ours and so we’ve been listening to them for a while now and they’ve recently achieved mainstream success as an all female pop/rock band! We would love to have similar successes. We would love to write and release an album and everything that comes with that, such as world tours, playing on TV shows, supporting our favourite artists and playing the big festivals. We want people from all over the world to listen to our music and sing back to us at shows.

For those who are yet to see you live, what can they expect from a Carpark show?

Fundamentally we are drums, bass, guitar and vocals which is a very traditional rock band set up. Our songs are more trashy and high energy live than they sound on the record.

What’s next for Carpark?

We’ve just announced our biggest London headline show ever – which will be at the Moth Club in London on 26th April. Then we have a few festivals over summer, before going back into the studio to write more and make all those plans mentioned above happen!
