If you like your rock with a touch of pop and 80s inspiration, then allows us to introduce you to German rock outfit blacktoothed. We caught up with the band’s lead vocalist Hendrik following the release of their new album JULI, to discuss their formation, ambitions, future plans and more.

Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself and your band.

Hey everybody, my name is Hendrik and I am the lead vocalist of blacktoothed. The charming Matti plays the guitar and sings the backing vocals, David is our clockwork, our battery, our drummer. We all live in Leipzig and have known each other for a long time.

How did the band form and how long have you been together?

I formed the band in 2007. Back then we called ourselves Black Tooth Scares and we played hard rock. After a few years and many line-up changes, we became the band we are today. It’s hard to describe our current style, it’s a mixture of 80s hard rock, modern metal and US pop, somewhere in between.

Can you remember the first time you realised you wanted to make music?

It wasn’t difficult for me personally, my mother is a music teacher and my brother is a musician himself. I was practically born into music. I discovered my passion for music very early on. I started playing the guitar when I was nine, and so one thing led to another.

Who and what are the band’s main influences?

Difficult question. We have different influences in the songs as already mentioned, from 80s hard rock, heavy metal, modern rock and US pop, EDM. Naming bands or artists is very difficult, but I would generally name Mötley Crüe, The Camino Band, Don Broco etc.

What do you aim to achieve as a band?

We want to bring our music closer to people and of course building a bigger fan base and playing shows around the world. Turning our hobby into a job would also be great, but most of all we want to make people happy with our music.

For those who are yet to see you live, what can they expect from a blacktoothed show?

Is it time to praise ourselves? HAHA. We always do our best! We play our asses off. I think we are a very good live band, have a lot of fun and infect people with it. It’s one party and everyone is invited. We always try to be as professional as possible and I think that’s what sets us apart! Fun and professionalism…

What’s next for blacktoothed?

The most important thing is our album release. We are 100% focused on our album. Of course, some shows are planned, a tour is also planned, but all of that in its own time. We’re looking forward to our album and hope people will celebrate it as much as we do.
