Behind The Noise

MUSIC FEATURE: Behind The Noise – AVIANA

It’s not been the easiest of journeys for Joel Holmqvist, but now the vocalist of Swedish alt-metal band AVIANA is ready to take the world by storm with their new album CorporationAVIANA released a string of singles ahead of the record, including the heavy, fast-paced Paradox – we caught up with Holmqvist to discuss the track’s themes, behind the scenes stories and more.

Can you give us your quick elevator pitch on this track? Why does this one standout for you?

A heavy beating, fast-paced song with an industrial angry feel to it.

How did you tackle the writing process for the song? Was there anything unique about this track compared to your usual/previous approach?

It’s the last single released and the last single we finished writing. I knew I wanted something “face to the wall” sounding to end this album with. So the unique thing with this song is that we skipped the chorus parts, just to be able to keep the fast pace going.

Can you tell us how the song’s theme came about?

The theme of the whole album is about self loathing, depression, suicidal thoughts and being manipulated. This last single is about refusing the be treated a certain way and being able to get out of a relationship that is damaging.

Tell us about the video, do the themes of the single transfer to the video?

The video was filmed and edited in that industrial, fast-paced sense. We wanted it to have motion constantly and as little acting as possible. Though the acting parts actually has a big impact in the band’s future. So be sure to look at the details in the video.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories from the video shoot?

Haha yeah, we almost started a fire frying a piece of gear. Never seen the team work as fast and as together before. And we had a major laugh about it.

Anything else you’d like to add for our readers?

I really want to thank everyone who’s been sticking with me throughout the last two years. It’s been a rocky ride for sure but we’re finally at the release of the album. And to all the new fans who have joined during the last two years. Thank you all for the love. I can’t wait to see what we can do together.
