MUSIC NEWS: The Ivors Academy Announce Rising Star Award Nominees

The Ivors Academy have announced details of the nominees for this year’s Rising Star Award in conjunction with Apple Music.

This year’s nominees in the category which showcases British and Irish songwriters and composers aged 18 – 24 are Allegra, Holly Humberstone, Kamal, Rachel Chinouriri and Willow Kayne. Each nominee will be paired with a mentor and provided with a year-long mentorship of support and guidance, the mentors for 2021 are Cathy Dennis, Nile Rodgers, Jamie Hartman, Jamie Scott and Fiona Bevan who have teamed up to mentor Holly Humberstone, Allegra, Kamal, Willow Kayne and Rachel Chinouriri respectively. 

Music icon and 2021 mentor Nile Rodgers comments: “As a producer my role is to create an environment where the artist, musicians and songwriters can be confident to give their very best. I see my role with the Ivors Academy and my friends at Apple Music similarly. I love mentoring and nurturing the incredible young talent they are accelerating the development of. They are the stars of the future.”

Ivor Novello Awards showcases and recognise those with talents for exceptional song writing and composing and the nominees for Rising Star Award were chosen by award-winning songwriters and composers from The Ivor Academy’s membership. The winner of the Rising Star Award will be announced on 21st September 2021 as part of the Ivors 2021 and will be presented with their own Ivor Novello Award. Alongside this all nominees will receive a year-long mentorship with an Academy member as their individual mentors as well as support from Apple Music leaders and workshops on how to utilise Apple’s creative tools.

Nominees within other awards categories will be announced on Tuesday 10th August 2021 and all category winners will be announced at The Ivors with Apple Music on Tuesday 21st September 2021 at Grosvenor House in London.
