Last week, rock trio The Luka State got creative and physically launched a copy of their debut album Fall In Fall Out into space, to celebrate its release via Shelter Records/BMG. We caught up with frontman Conrad Ellis to discuss the band, including their formation, influences and more.

Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself and your band.

Hi I’m Conrad and I’m the frontman of rock ‘n’ roll band, The Luka State. Music is my main passion and my life revolves around it, but I also love my footy.

How did the band form and how long have you been together?

Sam (bass) and I have known each other since we were 11 years old, and we’ve been playing music together since then. Lewis (guitar) went to school with me and was in all of my classes and then we pinched Jake after watching him in a Muse cover band. We’ve been a band for around five years now.

Can you remember the first time you realised you wanted to make music?

Ever since I was around eight, I wanted to start making music. It was always around me growing up and my uncle and cousin would always be on the guitar singing at family parties. I got my first guitar when I was eight and the rest is history. I still have the guitar actually.

Who and what are the band’s main influences?

Life, people, experiences we have, stories etc. Musically it would have to be The Beatles. We’re all massive Beatles heads, although Lewis is more of a Stones kinda guy. But we love everything from early punk, grunge, Brit-pop, rock n roll, the list is endless; we’re just huge music fans! It makes our world go ‘round.

What do you aim to achieve as a band?

To reach as many people as possible. To connect with audiences far and wide, and be that band that you want to show your mates.

For those who are yet to see you live, what can they expect from your show?

An energy packed rock ‘n’ roll gig. Sweaty, loud, passionate the list is endless. We just want you to let go and fucking enjoy yourself!

What’s next for The Luka State?

World domination…
