MUSIC INTERVIEW: Saint Agnes At Takedown Festival MUSIC INTERVIEW: Saint Agnes

At Takedown Festival 2023, we sat down with @wearesaintagnes Jon James Tufnell and Ryan Brown to discuss their forthcoming album Bloodsuckers, the story behind the music and the strong friendship within the band.

Because music, ultimately is you’re making a product. But we’re hope we hope we’re making art. We try it, we see it as art, and we’re making art. And to have someone who’s just like, this is what I want to say. And this is how I want to say it. I don’t want to fucking compromise. So okay, cool. Let’s just do this.

FESTIVAL REVIEW: Manchester Punk Festival 2023 Sp FESTIVAL REVIEW: Manchester Punk Festival 2023

Spread across 7 different venues with over 140 bands, Manchester Punk Festival is here for the win. With acts such as Off With Their Heads, The Flatliners, Wonk Unit and many more, this sunny weekend was set out to be a belter.

‘@glitchersband brought out their classic megaphone for the last song of the night Fuck The Tories to which every single person in the room went ballistic. For two people who don’t normally play in venues, they sure brought the roof down.’

EP REVIEW: Picturesque – IYKYK Hailing from Ken EP REVIEW: Picturesque – IYKYK

Hailing from Kentucky, rock band @picturesqueband are releasing their newly anticipated EP, IYKYK, three years after their 2020 album, Do You Feel O.K?. Although created during the pandemic, IYKYK is ambitious.

‘Opening with wailing guitars, Williamson and Forrester set up the sombre tone of the song. When the chorus hits, both guitars drop and expose Hollis’ perpetuation of vulnerability. Hollis’ punchy, melodic singing carries the tune with minimal bass and drums to carry out the chorus. This song is a testament to his vocal talent.’

ALBUM REVIEW: Enter Shikari – A Kiss For The Who ALBUM REVIEW: Enter Shikari – A Kiss For The Whole World

Marketed as what the band are calling their first entry within their second act, fans will be pleased to hear that it packs a serious punch. Right from the get-go with opening track A Kiss for the Whole World x, rousing fanfares and rapid rhythms welcome listeners back into the head of bandleader Rou Reynolds. This barrage of high-speed energy continues into the massive first single, (pls) set me on fire, as well as later track Jailbreak and its uplifting message of self-acceptance, and, to a lesser extent, closer song Giant Pacific Octopus (i don’t know you anymore) and its memorable lead guitar work.

As part of the final instalment in their ‘A Kiss For The Whole World’ UK tour, Enter Shikari headed to Glasgow for the third time in as many months. It was colourful, it was fun and it was a perfect insight into why Enter Shikari are one of the best bands on the scene.

LIVE REVIEW: @deafhavana , The LaFontaines, Sick J LIVE REVIEW: @deafhavana , The LaFontaines, Sick Joy @ The 1865

“Some band’s sound better when recorded compared to live, for us it feels like Deaf Havana are the opposite of this as when before our eyes they come to life championed by James’ stage presence and vocal range. Offering a bit of a rock, some electro edge and also some acoustic vibes for good measure, it offered a bit for everyone during the set. Caro Padre has an air of elegance about this, but a guttural punch within especially when the instrumental section comes to life. Progressing through the set, it’s obvious that tonight meant as much to the band as it did the audience watching, with James letting us know ‘this has been our favourite show of the tour’ followed by Matthew supporting this ‘sometime you get little reminders of just how fun it is to do what we’re able to do. So thank you’. ”

MUSIC FEATURE: Five Minutes With… @thenightmares MUSIC FEATURE: Five Minutes With… @thenightmares666

“We are a band from Newport in South Wales, and we play a form of music that we describe as ‘noir-pop’. A mix of goth, emo, and post-punk sounds. We just want to make our mark and mean something to the people that get our band. I hope that our music can be looked back on in time and be respected and loved by our fans. There are so many records in my collection that still mean so much to me. I really hope we can be that for someone out there. We want to welcome people into our world and have people feel like they can be part of our gang.”
