With hangovers slowly setting in and the sun blazing down, a new day dawns at Download. And with that comes a whole host of new and old bands to see. We start the day with a swift Guinness followed by Black Spiders over at the Tuborg tent. A bit of dirty sleaze rock, overlaid with Cornell esque vocals can’t be wrong this early in the day. And who can argue with a band whose songs feature lyrics like “Eat lightning, shit thunder”?
Some may have dismissed Fightstar initially and unfairly, mainly due to singer Charlie Simpsons pop star credentials. Quite rightly their relative longevity, festival appearances and knack of putting together catchy rock songs has now earned them respect within the alternative scene. Mercury Summer is probably their most commercial single to date , something which their record company seems to have realized
