Five Minutes With

MUSIC FEATURE: Five Minutes With…Nova Charisma

Donovan Melero (Hail The Sun) and Sergio Medina (Royal Coda) came together last year to form their new project, Nova Charisma. The band launched with their Exposition I EP and quickly followed with Exposition II, which celebrated its physical release earlier this month. We caught up with Donovan Melero to find out more, including his influences and what Nova Charisma aim to achieve.

Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself and your band.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been playing music. And I’ve always wanted to be an entertainer. Nova Charisma is the latest collaboration from myself and Sergio. It scratches an itch that I’ve never been able to before, a mix of pop and progressive energy combined.

How did the band form and how long have you been together?

When Sianvar broke up, Sergio and I felt compelled to continue our musical partnership, so we formed Nova Charisma. It’s only been a year of the bands existence, with the public only knowing for the last six months.

Can you remember the first time you realised you wanted to make music?

Yes. I was seven years old and I started writing and recording songs on piano.

Who and what are the band’s main influences?

This is a never-ending answer. My biggest influence is my desire to continue creating without any type of restriction.

What do you aim to achieve as a band?

Pieces of music that connect and resonate with an audience beyond our control.

For those who are yet to see you live, what can they expect from a Nova Charisma show?

Five individuals on stage figuring out how to move together, as a unit and individuals, while performing our art.

What’s next for Nova Charisma?

More shows, varying styles, more touring.

Nova Charisma‘s latest EP Exposition II is out now via Rude Records/Equal Vision Records, available to stream or purchase HERE.
