MUSIC INTERVIEW: Download Festival Preview – Badflower

This weekend Southern California rockers Badflower make their debut at Download Festival. We caught up with the band ahead of their appearance to talk about what the festival means to them, what we can expect from their set and more.

You return to the UK next week for Download Festival. This will be your debut at the festival, but what does Download mean to you?

All of the bands I loved growing up have played Download so we’re honoured to be part of it.

Are there any other bands on the line-up that you’ve spotted who you’d love to check out?

Halestorm – wish they were on the same day as us.

How do festival shows compare to headline shows for Badflower?

Festivals are a good opportunity for us to introduce people to our music, people who might never have come across us before. We always feel very lucky to play them.

What is your most memorable moment on stage?

I recently brought a 17 year old fan on stage at a festival to play my guitar part on our song Animal. I’ve seen the Foo Fighters do that and I’ve always wanted to. The kid killed it, too!

You released your debut album OK, I’M SICK earlier this year – are there any songs in particular from the album that you love to play live the most?

We love playing The Jester live.

For those who may be seeing you for the first time at Download Festival, what can they expect from a Badflower show?

Hopefully an emotionally confronting and transformative experience.

Finally, what are your festival do’s and don’ts?

Drink water, not beer. Wear sunscreen. Don’t take anything too seriously – just have fun
