Alt-pop duo I Don’t Know How But They Found Me (commonly shortened to iDKHOW) may be a fairly new band, but following the release of 1981 Extended Play last year they have had non-stop success, with a sold-out UK headline tour, an appearance at London’s O2 Academy Brixton supporting Deaf Havana and touring America. Soon to return to the UK for a tour and an appearance at Slam Dunk Festival, we caught up with Dallon Weekes to discuss their live show, his most memorable moment on stage and his festival do’s and don’ts.

You return to the UK later this month for Slam Dunk. This is your first time appearing at the festival as iDKHOW, but what does Slam Dunk Festival mean to you?

The last time I was at Slam Dunk, it was so much fun! Festival dates like Slam Dunk are a really great time, so I’m looking forward to an awesome set and seeing some friends play too!

Are there any other bands on the line-up that you’ve spotted who you’d love to check out?

We toured with Waterparks a little while ago, so it will be nice to see those fellas again. I’m hoping to catch Hellogoodbye’s set as well. I really loved Would It Kill You?.

While you’re over in the UK you also play a handful of headline shows, how do they compare to festival shows for you?

Festival shows are a bit more of a challenge. The majority of the people you’re playing for are not there to see you, so you have to do your best to win them over. Luckily we really enjoy getting the opportunity to do just that!

You released your 1981 Extended Play record last year, will you be focusing on songs only from the EP at the shows or can we expect any new material to surface?

We are doing our best to save new material for a proper album release, so we play a few songs from our old band The Brobecks and we’ve been covering Beck’s song Debra which is a lot of fun.

Are there any songs in particular off the EP that you love to play live the most?

Probably Social Climb. That song is my favourite. Especially when we can convince the crowd to sing along.

For those who may be seeing you for the first time at the end of the month, what can they expect from an iDKHOW show?

Pure nonsense.

What is your most memorable moment on stage with iDKHOW?

Probably playing a sold out headline show in London last year. The crowd was insane. The best I’ve seen.

Finally, what are your festival do’s and don’ts?

Do: Forget about social media for the day.
Don’t: Be afraid to have a good time.
