LIVE REVIEW: Knuckle Puck, Tiny Moving Parts, Movements, The 1865, Southampton, 04/10/2018

Following on from the rescheduling of their December 2017 tour, the time finally arrived for Southampton fans to see Knuckle Puck live at The 1865. With support from Movements and Tiny Moving Parts, it was set to be a line-up of great live music.

America’s Movements weren’t waiting around to kick off the night in loud fashion, performing tracks from their debut album Feel Something which is soon to celebrate its first birthday. Opening up their set with Third Degree, it was clear that despite being openers they were performing as if this was their own headline show, with bodies flying about the venue and fans chanting back lyrics to tracks including Colorblind. Closing track Daylily was a set highlight, giving everyone a chance to get their breath back and reflect on the powerful set. Patrick Miranda‘s vocals soared, filled with emotional strength whilst still managing to rouse the crowd into a frenzy. It was clear that this wasn’t going to be a quiet night in Southampton for those lucky enough to be at the show. 7/10

When we caught up with The Front Bottoms at Reading Festival, we were given the heads up about Tiny Moving Parts and their relentless touring, setting our hopes high for the Minnesota trio’s set. Their uplifting energy from the moment they appeared onstage changed the vibe of the night in the best possible way. Earlier this year Tiny Moving Parts completed their first UK headline tour alongside releasing their sixth studio album Swell, which meant their fans were out in numbers. Earlier material such as Sundress and Always Focussed wasn’t forgotten, much to the delight of the fans who’ve been there for the long run. With crowd surfers making their first appearance of the night we had a feeling that this wouldn’t be the last of them tonight. A little bit of emo with a whole lot of fun, what’s not to love? 7/10

Next up was the act we’d all been waiting for, especially since the show was rescheduled from last year… Knuckle Puck. Bounding onto the stage to a packed-out venue and a sea of cheers, let the chaos commence. The set highlight was when the night’s biggest pit emerged during fan-favourite Double Helix. Vocalist Joe Taylor knows the power he has as a ringleader of the crowd, watching as they follow his every request. The thing with Knuckle Puck is that even if you don’t think you know many songs, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. With a set-list including Pretense and Untitled, the vibe was electric with singalongs galore. Fans were treated to interesting er ‘facts’: apparently Southampton has the biggest Pizza Hut in Europe, which is definitely one of the most questionable facts we’ve heard this year. Sorry guys!

We’ll be honest, for a Southampton show the number of crowd surfers was a little bit impressive. Hats off Knuckle Puck for making a memorable, very well polished set for all who attended this great pop-punk show. 8/10
