MUSIC INTERVIEW: Life On The Road With…SHADED

It’s an exciting time for SHADED, with the recent release of their EP A Familiar Love and tours alongside Wolf Culture and PVMNTS keeping them busy until the end of the year. We caught up with the pop punk trio to hear their top tips and stories from the road.

Favourite thing about touring:

Besides playing a show every night, having a great excuse to eat out and get Starbucks 3 times a day.

Least favourite thing about touring:

I’ve been ill a couple of times on tour and, especially when having to sing every night, it can get pretty tough! Other than that, there isn’t much that can take away from the enjoyable parts of touring.

Five essentials for the road:

The standard stuff – a washbag, a towel, a load of spare clothes, a pillow and a sleeping bag. If I head out and realise I’ve forgotten any of those, I’m freaking tf out haha!

Your favourite way to pass the time:

We pass our time by watching 45 minute vine compilations on YouTube. We’re a fun bunch.

“The Most”

Memorable moment:

Our very first show in Birmingham went OFF. It wasn’t long after we had released our first EP so definitely was not something we were expecting from a place we’d never played before.

Hilarious moment:

Our touring party in general comes out with an OUTRAGEOUS amount of hilarious moments. To pin-point one would be borderline impossible haha. Just sit in a van with JAKE FOGARTY for a split second and you will understand.

Embarrassing moment:

The last time we played London, the venue had a non-stick carpet as a drum mat that pretty much covered half the stage. Luckily it was only Dan who ended up on his ass in front of a room full of people.

Outrageous moment:

People listening to our songs.

Drunken moment:

Our manager’s band played a show at Facedown the night before what was probably our most important show to date, at that time. Of course we got absolutely whammo’d up until 6am and all fell asleep in a bar during the England world cup game the day of the show. Dan forgot his gear, we played terrible, it was absolutely fantastic.

Rewarding moment:

We were playing a show in a small town that we weren’t expecting a lot from in all honesty but then a couple of kids about 10 years old bounced in wearing our merch that they’d bought online and dragging their parents with them. Definitely was not what we were expecting!
