MUSIC INTERVIEW: Life On The Road With…10 Years

After releasing their eighth studio album (How To Live) As Ghosts last year, Tennessee alt-rockers 10 Years hit the road this week for a run of headline shows – their first time in the UK since their appearance at Download Festival in 2006! We caught up with the band to hear their top tips and stories from the road…

Favourite thing about touring:

Seeing all the amazing cities we get to travel to! That, and of course performing, but the travelling aspect is really cool since I wouldn’t have the opportunity to see most of these places if I wasn’t touring.

Least favourite thing about touring:

Missing my wife and kids.  Without a doubt.

Five essentials for the road:

Baby wipes, sanitiser, toothbrush, cell phone/charger, more baby wipes.

Your favourite way to pass the time:

Sleep or go for a walk around town.  I also enjoy sampling the local eateries.

“The Most”

Memorable moment:

One of my most memorable moments, simply as a music fan myself, was standing outside of Metallica’s practice room backstage at Download Festival and hearing them rip through hit after hit while being just a few feet away from me. Then they came out and I, of course, had a Metallica shirt on and Kirk said, “hey, I like your shirt man!”

Hilarious moment:

One time in Canada Jesse and I were performing acoustically for a radio station but it was inside the arena we were playing that night and while this was going on In This Moment began to soundcheck and we couldn’t hear ourselves and the people listening to us couldn’t hear either so that was funny, but because it was so distracting, our singer Jesse messed up one of the vocal parts so bad that I was literally crying I was laughing so hard.  Meanwhile, we were still attempting to play the song.

Embarrassing moment:

This didn’t happen to me, but our old bass player was playing on stage and he used to always put a foot up on a monitor at the front of the stage. He was doing this during a performance one time and these girls who were right underneath him, in the front row, were laughing and pointing at him and he looked down and realised there was a big hole in the crotch of his jeans and he wasn’t wearing any underwear, so his man junk was hanging out.  That’s pretty funny!

Outrageous moment:

Totally wrecking golf carts and making messes of backstage areas and dressing rooms with Korn and Deftones.

Drunken moment:

See “outrageous moment”! ??

Rewarding moment:

Simply hearing the fans sing the songs back to us every night and hearing their stories of what our music means to them.
