MUSIC INTERVIEW: Life On The Road With…Witterquick

Rock newcomers Witterquick hit the road next week for a run of shows in support of their latest single Bubblegum. We caught up with bassist Ollie Chanter to hear the band’s top tips and stories from the road, from drunken antics to the most rewarding moment of their career so far.

Favourite thing about touring:

The fans. Always the fans. Nothing beats meeting people who have traveled from different countries to see you play.

Least favourite thing about touring:

The seemingly endless hours spent in vans and buses.

Five essentials for the road:

A pillow. Learning to get sleep wherever you can is so important and a pillow makes that so much easier. A sense of humour. You need to find fun everywhere, otherwise you’ll go mad. Squashies have become a staple, fans bring us loads of bags now too. We watch a lot of movies and play games in the van to relax, we’re all movie and game buffs. A sword. You know. Just in case.

Your favourite way to pass the time:

Humour. We laugh a lot, particularly when we’re functioning on little sleep. It gets you through.

“The Most”

Memorable moment:

The first time a whole crowd sang a song back to us.

Hilarious moment:

In the back lounge on the tour bus with Nothing But Thieves – one of our crew was so drunk he ate his plastic fork while eating a kebab, and couldn’t figure out why he only had the handle in his hand.

Embarrassing moment:

The amount of times I’ve fallen into the drums is ridiculous. I really should learn.

Outrageous moment:

Can Glasgow be a moment? Every time we go there it’s pretty wild. It’s a wild city. I don’t think we can print most of that.

Drunken moment:

We’re good boys before we play, but we lost Ben in a club in Liverpool once after a show. We found him in a different club holding 3 beers queuing up for more with some girl’s glasses on. He said: “I don’t feel too bad, I just can’t see.”

Rewarding moment:

We’ve just sold out our first London show. Lots of milestones stay with you, that’s one of them. We can’t wait to play that one!
