MUSIC INTERVIEW: Life On The Road With…LOVEBITES

Lovebites 2018

Birmingham’s LOVEBITES have had a busy summer, with the recent release of their Social Hell EP on top of a series of festival appearances and shows. We caught up with the band surrounding the dates to hear their top tips and stories from the road.

Favourite thing about touring:

The opportunity to see different towns and cities and meet all the different kinds of people from them. It’s always nice experiencing different cultures too. We are all big foodies so we always try and find a good place to eat after we play.

Least favourite thing about touring:

Flatulence on the bus. An ongoing issue, however we have a pot so if anyone let’s rip it’s a £1 flatulence charge.

Five essentials for the road:

Baby wipes (for general cleanliness) deodorant (to smell like we are clean), toothpaste (for obvious reasons) and a good sense of humour. Not a minute passes where a joke doesn’t get thrown out there or some kind of innuendo doesn’t happen. Sarcasm gets us through!

Your favourite way to pass the time:

FIFA all the way whilst listening to good and hilariously bad music. We all get 10-20 songs each on our playlist and that usually covers our journey. Some songs are ones we love, others are silly. Our favourite is when someone drops the Macerena or The Cha Cha Slide. On the way back home it’s our ethos that the bus driver gets his/her choice of music, it’s only fair.

“The Most”

Memorable moment:

The first day of putting the last bit of gear in the bus, ready for tour.

Hilarious moment:

Being in Wigan, playing a show then afterwards we met some local people. We couldn’t really make out what they were saying and it was a really random conversation. It reminded us of scene from a film called Total Recall. For the rest of the evening, we kept shouting…”Quaid….Start the Reactor!”

Embarrassing moment:

Playing pool before a show, and completely missing the last shot to win but then losing (we not sore losers, promise!) Were all really competitive so we always like to play some kind of game before a show.

Outrageous moment:

We play this game where 2 people say a number between 1 and 15, if the total adds up to 15, you have to do a dare. I took a kick drum to the head (full force on the pedal!) for losing that ridiculous tour game.

Drunken moment:

We hardly drink but we like to watch drunken people. We played a local show and saw a guy who looked like Louis Spence there once…he was drunk as a skunk, dancing very “uniquely”, to put it lightly. We found it very funny and he noticed we were giggling. But fair play to him because we all shook his hand at the end of the night!

Rewarding moment:

Playing a great show, with a positive reaction from the crowd, gaining new LOVEBITES followers.
