FESTIVAL FEATURE: Must See Bands At Download Festival

It’s that time of year again, Download Festival. Set to takeover Donington Park between the 9th-11th June, the festival is home to some of the biggest names in rock and metal, as well as the hottest up and coming acts from across the globe. With such a packed line-up it can be daunting trying to plan out your day, so we’ve chosen our must see bands to help you decide!

ASTROID BOYS – FRIDAY
THE AVALANCHE STAGE 13:50-14:15

The Cardiff punk/grime hybrid have cultivated a movement that positions them as a voice for the youth, channeling aggression and acting as a path of escapism from the woes of the modern world. If you haven’t seen the band before expect the entire stage to bounce, from the attacking spits to Dellux’s signature production the band create a monumental sound that will have you on your feet in no time. We’re hoping to hear some old favourites, as well as the band’s latest single Foreigners, which you can check out below.

HOLDING ABSENCE – FRIDAY
DOGTOOTH STAGE 14:40-15:05

It’s hard to believe that post-hardcore outfit Holding Absence formed a mere 12 months ago. In that short time the band have signed to SharpTone Records and toured relentlessly up and down the country – including tours with We Are The Ocean and Blood Youth/Loathe – with a run of shows supporting Young Guns also on the cards. The quintet weave between dark and light, taking you on a whirlwind journey and pulling on your heartstrings. Catch these guys in an intimate setting while you can, because it won’t be long before they take off.

NORMANDIE – SATURDAY
AVALANCHE STAGE – 11:00-11:25

You may be nursing Friday’s hangover but we can guarantee that Swedish rockers Normandie will get you back into the swing of things and ready for the day ahead. The band create a sound so anthemic it will blow your mind, and you’ll be left amazed at how well frontmanĀ Philip Strand nails those high notes. Having released their critically acclaimed debut albumĀ Inguz in 2016 the trio have turned heads at BBC Radio One, Kerrang!, Rock Sound and more. So set your alarm early and drag yourself over to the arena, trust us you will not regret it.

DRONES – SATURDAY
DOGTOOTH STAGE – 11:50-12:15

As soon as you’ve finished being amazed by Normandie take a trip over to the Dogtooth stage for punk outfit Drones. This is the band’s first time at the festival with their new line-up, welcoming of vocalist Lois McDougall and guitarist Tim Kramer last year, and the quintet are feistier than ever. Their socio-political statement couldn’t come at a better time either, with their latest single Territories pertinent to the uncertain times ahead. An important band who deserve your attention, make sure you include Drones in your schedule.

DEAD! – SUNDAY
AVALANCHE STAGE – 13:50-14:20

From touring with Deaf Havana to supporting Blondie at the Roundhouse, Dead! are a band you need on your radar. Their brand of rock has a theatrical flair, with frontman Alex Mountford’s vocal delivery charismatic to match his on-stage demeanor. Dead! are fully submerged in festival season, having just appeared at Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park, so you can expect them to bring the party with them on the Avalanche Stage on Sunday. A perfect band to add to your schedule on the final day of Download Festival.

FIZZY BLOOD – SUNDAY
DOGTOOTH STAGE – 14:20-14:45

Having just completed a 19-date tour with While She Sleeps, Leeds based Fizzy Blood have perfected their live show in time for Download Festival. The band possess an unrelenting energy with grungy guitars, creating a blistering soundscape that will have you captivated for the entire 25 minute set. Having already turned the heads of BBC Radio One DJ Huw Stephens, Kerrang! Radio and more, the five-piece are a must-see at Download; check out their latest single Pawn below:
