Abel have independently released their second full length album, Make It Right. Following on from 2010’s Lesser Man – that really put them on the map and gained them some loyal followers – this is a great rock/indie album that shows their dedication as they used Kickstart to raise funds for studio time.
I’ll Be Waiting immediately kick starts the album, with a fast pace and heavy sound. Vocalist Kevin Kneifel sounds amazing and the track itself is full of great guitar riffs and drumming. Fire Walk With Me starts like an anthem and the lines ‘Oh the devil wants to drag my soul down to the lake of fire’ will surely have fans singing along. The song shows that the band can put together good rock songs that are also catchy and this song in particular will be a favourite for fans.
The fast pace continues along with An Ultimatum – which starts slow, but really picks up – Fine Lines and Daughter. These songs have a lot of emotion in them in terms of lyrics. The songs are so personal, and will be something that fans will be able to relate to, and love. Fine Lines and Daughter, in particular, are highlights of the album. Each continues the fast pace with an edgy sound and some stand out lyrics.
Come Home and A Grief Observed slow the album right down, with some great sounding vocals from Kneifel. Come Home’s lyrics are straight from the heart and sound beautiful over the backing music. A Grief Observed really shows the band’s religious influences. The whole band are devout Christians and rely heavily on religion. A lot of the songs, lyrically, focus on religion and this song in particular does so.
Make It Right ends on a high with Fifteen Years, Your Heart Your Soul and Comfort & Truth, each with a softer tone. Fifteen Years is another lyrically strong song and its softer start sounds really good before picking up with drums and some stand out riffs to give it an almost epic sound. Your Heart Your Soul has a similar dynamic, with a slow start and strong pick up from the band. Comfort & Truth is perfect finale for the album. It has more eerie vocals and is the softest on the album, showing the range the band can do.
Make It Right is perfect second full length from Abel. They’re a very talented band and they’ve perfected their blend of heavy rock alongside really catchy songs. The lyrics are very emotional in this particular album, and fans will absolutely love it.
Make It Right is released September 18 2012.
