She’s been missing from the British music scene for a couple of years whilst she breaks America and the hearts of thousands of men by hooking up with Sonny Moore, otherwise known as Skrillex; but now it seems Ellie Goulding is about to come back all guns blazing and looking a whole lot more sexy.
Ellie’s debut album Lights saw the young lady take acoustic folk music in a whole new direction, working with Starsmith to blend her elegant guitar melodies with electronic beats, creating a new style of electronic, acoustic goodness. Over the past few months she’s been hitting the studio hard, once again working with Starsmith to collate the best tracks for album number two, of course with a little extra help from her dubstep master boyfriend and dance trio Swedish House Mafia.
This also caused slight concern that we’d be hit with just another dubstep record that strayed too far from the sound that made Ellie the musician she is. Fortunately new single Hanging On has brushed away all concerns, proving that Ellie has spent most of that time away creating some amazing new songs.
Hanging On, which happens to be a cover of Active Child and also features Tinie Tempah, mixes Ellie’s enchanting vocals with drum n bass esque beats and dark electronic sounds. Yes, it’s different from the likes of Guns and Horses and Starry Eyed but it definitely shows a more grown up side to Ellie’s music, particularly with the added section from Tinie Tempah and with lyrics such as “she broke my heart, I took some Gaviscon” who needs to take inspiration from Shakespeare to create a hit?
We like the new Ellie and we’re certainly interested to see what her new album will entail, let’s just hope she hurries up!
