Fresh off their Download performance, we caught up with I Divide to find out how that was, summer tour plans and what’s next for the band from the South West.
You’ve just got back from Download festival where you played on the Red Bull Bedroom Jam stage, how was that?
Where do we start!? In-flippin-credible. I’ll try and restrain myself from swearing but it was FUDGING FANTASTIC! Just everyone we met were so nice and definitely contributed to us having one of the best weekends ever. We properly made the most of it. We just want to say thanks to Red Bull for taking us along and our fans for helping us to completely pack out the tent.
How did the crowd respond to your set?
They were so freekin’ crazy and just generally an awesome crowd to play in-front of. We had so many people singing along, jumping, spinning, shouting and going mental. We wouldn’t have had half as good a time if it wasn’t from them making us feel so welcome. We’ve had a huge number of messages and support across our social media since so thanks to all of those people!
Who else did you get to see over the weekend? Any stand out performances?
We went deep into the depths of The Prodigy crowd and partied our little hearts out. That was a true highlight for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could see their light show from space! Also loved Metallica, Periphery, Tenacious D… there’s just too many to name. Henry and myself (Josh) got to interview a few bands as well which was great fun, including Upon A Burning Body and August Burns Red.
You also recently played at Slam Dunk South, how does it compare playing a smaller festival and one of the UK’s largest festivals?
Slam Dunk festival was fantastic, definitely doesn’t seem like a small festival whilst you’re there. It sold out this year and it was like a constant game of sardines.
In July, you’re off on tour with Fei Comodo, followed by Hevy Fest in August, sounds like a pretty epic summer for you guys, anything in particular you’re excited about? Or any cities you’re looking forward to the most?
There’s a few places we’ve been to before like Glasgow, so it will be interesting to see how many new fans we’ve gained over there in the last year. It’s just going to be an insane Summer. We haven’t done a proper tour in a little while and the fact that we’re joining the Fei Comodo boys on their final tour is a MASSIVE honor. We’re going to make the most of it and put on the best show of our lives so hopefully we’ll see a lot of faces. COME AND PARTY WITH US!
There aren’t many alternative bands that hail from the South West, do you think that’s an advantage for you? Or has it been a hindrance on your band in any way?
Well it’s possible made it a little more difficult to build up a reputation for ourselves without a big rock music scene from where we’re from, but now that we’ve gained a little more national success it’s just been fantastic to have everyone from around our area giving us a huge amount on support. We’ve had a lot of messages from local fans saying that we’re doing the South West proud, and that really gives us a big buzz :)
Your new video for Burning Out sees you all looking rather smart with your shirts on! Is this a new look for I Divide? Or did you just scrub up for the lovely viewers?
Haha, we’re definitely trying to keep our look a little more consistent. Mainly because without a little discipline we all end up dressing like we’ve just fallen backwards through a hedge, so I guess you could call it a new look. We just have a lot of beautiful fans so we need to try and keep up with all of them ;)
The video also has more of a production to it than your previous ones, with the actors etc. how did the idea for it come about?
We spent a long time sitting down and coming up with the concept for the idea. We wanted to try to tell a story that the audience could follow and enjoy watching from a cinematic point of view as well as showcasing our music. The actors we used are local to our hometown and were both amazing to work with so we owe a huge thank you to them. I wont give away too much information about the video but we’ve had a lot of people tell us that the ending made them feel real emotion so I guess we did a good job there. I don’t want to spoil the ending but THERE IS A TWIST, so I advise all of you that haven’t watched it to check it out ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7MfHVvKAPI
Other than touring have I Divide got anything else in the pipeline you can tell us about?
We’re currently writing our debut full-length album. We’re really excited about the new songs we’re writing. We’re currently playing one of them at our live shows so come and check us out if you want to hear it ;)
