For the third week running Marvel’s Avengers Assemble dominated the UK box office. The blockbuster smash is now on track to take $1 billion worldwide in just 19 days, making it the first Marvel Studios film to achieve such success, as well as the fifth Walt Disney Studios film to meet this fantastic figure. With some of the biggest and best superheroes, an excellent cast (including Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Mark Ruffalo), and an exciting, engrossing and fast-paced script, it’s no wonder the film has legs.
Following its record-breaking opening weekend in the US (where it took an enormous $207.4 million), superhero fans are still flocking to see Avengers Assemble globally, and with an astonishing $628.9 million in international admissions already pocketed, it’s looking like this summer’s triumph.
Luckily for the many fans of the film, Disney have announced a sequel to Avengers Assemble is in development, alongside sequels to Captain America (due 2014), Thor (2013) and Iron Man (2013), but it’s looking like there’s a new dominant superhero in town – and this time it’s a team.
