This is the debut EP from Fourth Quarter Comeback, a pop-punk four-piece from Fairfax, Virginia. They look and sound pretty young, and they have clearly been inspired by Blink 182 and All Time Low. It’s a catchy little five-track EP, and it’s definitely fun to listen to.
The only problem is it sounds like every other pop punk band around, except with more synths. So add Four Year Strong (before ‘In Some Way, Shape or Form’) to that soundalikes list too. Sounding like everyone else isn’t the worst insult to get, but original they certainly are not.
All five tracks are pretty easy on the ear: the vocals are pleasant, the music itself is fun to listen to, and the choruses are catchy. Opening track ‘When I Fall’ is great, very Blink 182 circa ‘Enema of the State’ (plus synths). Which is probably what every pop punk band wants to be told, so all is not lost.
Fourth Quarter Comeback may well succeed with the sugary pop punk fans of the world, but do we really need another Blink 182/All Time Low when they’re still here, along with all the millions of other pop punk bands around? It’s questionable.
7/10
Standout track: ‘When I Fall’
