Is the mini-album the new EP? According to sartorially savvy Don Broco, that would be a big fat yes as they prepare to spread their ‘Big Fat Smile’. Due for release on February 14th, this sixer from our favourite Dreamboys is set to be the ultimate V-Day gift.
Succumbing to the half dozen metal-pop spliced dance-rock tunes isn’t difficult; Don Broco sure love smashing up genres, keeping on top of their ‘lads, lash and banter’ influences throughout. You can’t help but feel how great life is for the Newbury ladiators right now with their medley of house party anthems ‘Dreamboy’, ‘Beautiful Morning’ and ‘Top Of The World’. All three of which have beautifully orchestrated and highly amusing videos to boot.
The second half of Big Fat Smile offers some versatility. Mellowing down slightly, ‘I’m Good’ slows down proceedings and uncovers Don Broco’s more sensitive side. Melancholic melodies replace the hyperactivity we’d become accustomed to and Rob Damiani’s vocals take a sultry turn away from the frantic dance party commando of tracks gone by. Until ‘Do What We Do’ kicks in, pelting electricity in every direction.
Get used to this Big Fat Smile. Don Broco will be smearing it across your chops for weeks to come.
