Bring The Noise UK

Festivals we would kill to be at

Festivals we would kill to be at

Festivals we would kill to be at

We’ll be honest, we consider ourselves pretty damned lucky here at BringthenoiseUK. We love festivals and we go to them a lot. Download, Guilfest, Sonisphere, Bloodstock, Reading… our summers are jam-packed with festivals. But there are still some we would cut off our litte toes to be at. Yes, there are still line-ups that make us get down on our knees and pray to the gods of metal and thunder to make it possible. And from time to time they actually do come through for us.

So here’s our prayer for 2010. These are the festivals we’d sell our annoying sisters to get to:

SXSW
17th – 21st March 2010
www.sxsw.com

Year after year we say it and year after year we sit at home rocking back and forth muttering to ourselves “I wish I was in Texas, I wish I was in Texas” while avoiding Facebook and Twitter for fear of hearing about yet another awesome one off show in a tiny crammed venue. A show we could never have imagined in our wildest dreams. From Stone Temple Pilots being joined onstage by Doors guitarist Robby Krieger for a cover of Roadhouse Blues to NoFX’s Fat Mike’s disturbing performance SXSW 2010 had it all. And once again we find oursleves repeating the same old broken promise: Next year, I’ll make it next year…

Coachella
16th – 18th April 2010
www.coachella.com

How do they do it? Every year Coachella offer an irrestable line-up of bands from the full spectrum of alternative music. Enough to tempt anyone to part with their hard-earned cash and make the pilgrimage across the atlantic. This year they offered up Faith No More, Public Image Limited, Perry Farrell vs. Steve Porter, Pavement and De La Soul, on a perfect platter of performaces in possibly the least festival like festival in the world.

Sonisphere – The Big Four
16th – 27th June 2010
www.sonispherefestivals.com

While in the UK we have to attend several festivals this summer for a chance to see all of the sainted “Big Four”, in some parts of Europe they were treated to the never seen before ultimate thrash metal line-up of Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth. Alright so there’s always the debate about whether it should be Testament instead of Anthrax but here at BringthenoiseUK we remember these four being refered to as the ultimate thrash show since Slayer and Megadeth joined forces for Clash of the Titans tour back in 1990. Definitely worth the cost of an EasyJet flight to Warsaw or Prague, or maybe even Athens.

Hellfest
18th – 20th June 2010
www.hellfest.fr

With the British summer weather being as unreliable as well, a British summer, the idea of heading across the channel for a music festival in sunny France always appeals. Especially when you add on of the biggest heaviest bills including headline slots from Defones, Kiss, Carcass, Godflesh and Garcia playing Kyuss songs. Remind us again why we weren’t there. We can’t think of a single good reason!

Warped Tour
25th June – 15th August 2010
www.vanswarpedtour.com

We simply have nothing like Warped Tour in the UK, or even Europe. A truely punk rock annual tradition, Warped is a touring festival like no other. For American punk fans one visit to Warped is never enough, with many following the event from city to city for weeks. This year sees a Brit invasion from the likes of Youmeatsix, Enter Shikari and Bring Me The Horizon plus a staggering line-up of bands including favourites Dillinger Escape Plan, Alkaline Trio and Polar Bear Club. All alongside a whole array of bands we’ve never heard of, so we’re hoping to come away discovering something completely new.
