We are actually quite surprised by Anarbor’s album ‘The Words You Don’t Swallow‘, because after seeing them live – they honestly really disappoint, but these 11 tracks from the 4 piece from Pheonix, Arizona are actually not that bad to be fair. A pleasant surprise even if we do say so ourselves.
Opening track ‘Contagious’ is a catchy one for sure, ‘Gypsy Woman‘ and our favourite track ‘Let The Games Begin‘ offers big sing-a-long chorus’ and ‘Mr. Big Shot‘ despite the lame title is infectious with a surfy kind of vibe. ‘The Whole World‘ is a bit of a low point with poor lyrical content and let down with a whiny ‘talking’ bit… Britney couldn’t do it boys let’s leave that one alone. It picks up straight away with ‘Carefree Highway‘ introducing some nice harmonies, soaring melodies and acoustic guitar turning it in to a relaxing summer driving song.
Last track ‘Endless‘ is crap quite frankly… the forced vocals ruin what could actually be quite a pleasant acoustic song, even the full band entering 3/4 way through couldn’t save it, it’s just a bit of a headache track.
It lacks a certain punch in some places towards the end of the record but it’s defiantly worth making up your own mind about this band. If you like Boys Like Girls, Cute Is What We Aim For, The Cab etc then you’ll probably like this album however it does feel like it’s all been done before. 6/10
