So as Camden is developing into a glass and polished steel fronted market place. Long gone from the classic Camden we all knew and loved. Certain things will always remain the same, one of those things is the party vibe of the area.
So when we were kindly invited along to the prestigous Proud Gallery Camden’s 2nd Birthday Party, who were we to refuse.
As we arrive inside the venue we are instantly engulfed by smoke, did someone forget to turn the damn smoke machine off?!? We navigate our war through the smoky abyss and head straight to the main room to catch the end of Ayah Marar’s set, accompanied by acoustic guitar this stripped down set shows off her vocal talents. Sadly her song writing seems to be lacking as choruses are reapeated over and over and over, making her more of an annoyance than a pleasure.
Rushing over to the South room to catch the Hoodlums was the best decision of the night, front man Lou Vainglorious is one of the best show men we have seen in a few years. Captivating the front row as well as all of the girls hearts & desires, as he dances and throws himself across this now sweaty room. The Hoodlums are a and who will put you in a good mood no matter how bad your day has been, their cover of MIA’s ‘Paperplanes‘ was the pure genius and a highlight, we will certainly be heading to all their London shows from now on.
Heading back over to the main room for Lauren Pritchard we notice how this is a very relaxed affair. Now dont get me wrong their are a lot of egos in this room but they have left their brash bravados at home and are here for one common goal, to PARTY! Maybe that has something to do with the free bar, we can’t comment on that of course…
As Lauren takes to the stage in the smoke filled room, you can’t help but be taken aback by her beauty. This girl is smoking hot!! And then she starts singing and she has the voice to match, the whole package. At times we question how she would perform on a Piano instead of a Keyboard, but that is just to pass time during songs. Performing hits like ‘Painkillers’ keeps the crowd on her side, but what really blows them away is her cover of ‘Waterfalls‘ by TLC. This girl will make it huge, we guarantee it
Jarvis Cocker takes the stage next to compare the event, bit late to introduce acts when most have been on Mr Cocker. Now a legend he may be but his voice when not singing has the ability to put insomniacs to sleep. So we decide to walk around seeing who has turned up, we managed to catch a glimpse of Olly Murs, Richard Bacon and some other less important TV presenters. We rushed back to the main room as Cocker finished and Professor Green arrives onstage.
Professor Green strides onstage and instantly the room fills and the crowd tightens, mostly due to his new found fame but also due to the free bar finishing. Green makes the crowd putty in his hands, controlling them with the ease of a pro, but even he is surprised when Amy Winehouse jumps onstage to sing only two lines from ‘Just be good to Green‘ appearing very nervous and shellshocked Amy did not look her best. But Green took it in his stride smiling profusely throughout, something which the crowd mirrored. This show tonight surely proves that Professor Green is here to stay, so everybody lets be good to Green…

I had a great night! Was totally amazing on all fronts!
I have to say though I disagree with your review of Ayah Marar’s set. Perhaps catching the end of the set only doesn’t qualify an opinion as I, and many others, thought she was incredible, songwriting included, what a star.
Either way, those who can’t, become critics ;)
Lauren Pritchard was also fantastic as was Pro Green! I was sad to when it all ended!
Great night!
