Ten Second Epic first caught our attention when we saw the video for lead single ‘Every Day‘ Featuring fellow canadian Lights. A perfect pop rock song in every way. When we received ‘Hometown‘ through our letterbox we were eager to see if the rest of the album would hit the spot just as well.
Yes we love our metal and full on rock, but we aren’t ashamed of our love for a bit of pop too. The album instantly delivers a fix for our pop cravings with opener ‘Welcome to Wherever You Are‘, riffs delivered turn down from 11 to about 8, leaving room for front man Andrew Usenik to use the relative quiet to fill with his soft youthful tones. This is a man we feel sure could make the saddest lyric seem cheerful.
The most enticing and damn right amazing pop rock song on the album has to be the aforementioned ‘Every Day‘ featuring Lights, a ridiculously bouncy and cheerful track. With its powerful chorus, sung with passion by Usenik and accompanied aptly by Lights soft, sweet and note perfect vocals working so well perhaps they should consider joining forces permanently!!
All in all this is one hell of an album, pop rock music made the way it should be. If you are not ashamed to admit your love for a bit of pop, then like us you won’t be ashamed to admit that you love ‘Hometown’ 9/10
