ALBUM REVIEW: Eschar – Nova
These last few years have been good for post-rock/prog-rock/djent/etc… and have helped widen the audience for instrumental music. Beginning with the ambient, yet intense Aphotic, delicately plucked guitars shimmer, bursts of distortion fading in and out of hearing. This atmospheric intro leads us directly into Monolith, the first nine minute epic on the album. Starting with a straightforward but ballsy groove, guitar melodies tearing over the top, it’s a pretty damn fine opening track. A few different ...

LIVE REVIEW: Less Than Jake, Yellowcard, O2 Academy Leeds, 14/03/2015

The first thing we noticed was the vast difference between Less Than Jake and Yellowcard fans. It was abundantly obvious who was there for whom, causing an uncomfortable atmosphere that wouldn’t be ...

NEW NOISE: The Autumn Ravine
Who: The Autumn Ravine Where: Kent/Sussex What: Straight up Brit-rock with an intelligent twang. About: Despite the experience the quality of tracks such as The Garden of England and The River might suggest, The Autumn Ravine are incredibly new - having only formed in the past year. What they have created and achieved in that year suggests that the future is very bright for them, having recently supported the triumphant Lower Than Atlantis as well as self-releasing their debut EP The Garden of England - if you’re searching for the next British alternative-rock band that are destined to make waves in the same way Mallory ...
